At Techno Union, we're a Sydney-based AI company founded in 2021 with a focused mission: to use advanced machine learning to solve complex environmental problems, including waste and recycling. Our small, specialised team of five combines expertise in AI, data science, and environmental technology.

WasteVision AI Case Studies: Real-World Outcomes in Waste Analytics

AI in action: contamination, overflow detection & operational optimization

Overflow Detection – JLT (Washington, DC)

Problem: Manual overflow tracking was less than 1% accurate, leading to significant missed billing opportunities and inefficiencies.

Solution: Integrated in-truck cameras with advanced machine learning for automated detection.

Outcome: Overflow detection increased to 8-12% of all lifts. In 45 days (6 trucks), 873 events were detected, leading to 420 billable actions and 190 customer warnings.

Municipal Contamination Detection

Problem: Manual waste inspection was inconsistent, slow, and labor-intensive, hindering effective contamination control.

Solution: Hopper-camera ML automatically detects contamination in real-time and links it directly to the property.

Outcome: Provided real-time detection with timestamped evidence. This enabled targeted education programs, replacing inefficient manual inspections.

UCO Collection Optimization

Use Case: Monitoring used cooking oil (UCO) tank levels to optimize collection routes and prevent overflows or theft.

Solution: AI and sensor integration (radar sensors) for precise fill-level monitoring, theft alerts, and smart routing decisions.

Result: Achieved improved collection efficiency, significantly reduced unnecessary pickups, and established compliance-ready tracking for all UCO assets.

Each project demonstrates high accuracy and scale, directly aligning with Canterbury-Bankstown Council's ML and data-use expectations.
